Recovering the Cultural Heritage of IWO (Institute for Jewish Research) in Argentina after the AMIA Bombing.

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

After the devastating AMIA  (Mutual Israelite-Argentinean Association) bombing on Monday, July 18, 1994 and while rescuers were dealing with those injured or dead, 800 youngsters from Argentina and other countries, volunteered to recover the cultural heritage of the IWO Foundation. IWO was located on the 3rd and 4th floors of the AMIA building, treasuring thousands of books, artifacts and art collections, unique pieces in Judaica and documentation from the Holocaust.

This heritage rescue is recorded in the documentary “Youngsters Who Preserved the Memory”.  Cynthia, former IWO Cultural Outreach Coordinator, will introduce this documentary that was released in educational and cultural venues across Argentina and abroad. In the past six years it has been exhibited in primary schools under the umbrella of the project “Little Authors, Big Ideas”.  Following the documentary, Ms. Fidel will offer her assessment and reflections on the recovery of the IWO archives and artifacts.
