Jewish Sports Figures in Crises

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

This session will explore Jewish sports figures and various scandals that have occurred surrounding their actions. We will discuss why these particular negative examples have garnered more public attention than the lesser-known positive Jewish role models in sports.

Additionally we will explore the roles and expectations of sports figures in society and how we can shift attention to positive actions. Are these expectations justified and/or realistic? Why do we expect athletes to behave a certain way? The question of whether Jewish sports figures have an obligation to represent the Jewish people and/or Israel will also be considered.

Do we expect teshuva from a Jewish athlete after tarnishing their reputation? What crisis management strategies have proven successful in reputation recovery for Jewish athletes in the past?
